Enforceability of Patent
Definition: The right of the patent owner to bring an infringement suit against a party who, without permission, makes, uses or sells the claimed invention.
Group Art Unit
Definition: A working unit responsible for a cluster of related patent art. Staffed by one supervisory patent examiner (SPE) and a number of patent examiners who determine patentability on applications for a patent.
OG - Patents
Definition: Official Gazette eOG:P - weekly publication of the USPTO that permits you to browse issued patents and view important notices.
Boolean
Definition: The patent search systems use "AND", "OR", and "ANDNOT" as Boolean operators, in combination with parentheses to build nested logical subsets.
Inventor
Definition: One who contributes to the conception of an invention. The patent law of the United States of America requires that the applicant in a patent application must be the inventor.
Patent
Definition: A property right granted by the Government of the United States of America to an inventor “to exclude others from making, using, offering for sale, or selling the invention throughout the United States.

There is a time limit on patent protection.
For applications filed on or after June 8, 1995, utility and plant patents are granted for a term which begins with the date of the grant and usually ends 20 years from the date you first applied for the patent subject to the payment of appropriate maintenance fees. Design patents last 14 years from the date you are granted the patent. Note: Patents in force on June 8 and patents issued thereafter on applications filed prior to June 8, 1995 automatically have a term that is the greater of the twenty year term discussed above or seventeen years from the patent grant.
